St Anne’s Square is set for a significant transformation. The vacant premises of former retailer JR Taylor, dormant since 2015, is poised to become a vibrant hub, breathing new life into the area. Corbenyah Properties, with the guidance of Smith & Love Planning Consultants, has secured approval for a project that will see the 20,000 sq ft space reborn as a boutique hotel, spa, and restaurant – complete with a rooftop bar for panoramic views.

A Spa Oasis in the Basement, Hospitality Above

WBD Architectural Consultants, the Blackpool-based firm spearheading the renovation, has envisioned a thoughtfully designed space. The basement will be transformed into a tranquil spa sanctuary, offering a haven of relaxation for guests. The ground floor will be dedicated to a restaurant, enticing visitors with delectable offerings.

Ascending to the first floor, one will encounter dedicated medical facilities and massage rooms, ideal for those seeking a touch of rejuvenation. Finally, the second floor will be home to four spacious self-serviced suites, catering to both hotel guests and those seeking a taste of Airbnb hospitality.

Revitalisation and Investment: A Catalyst for Change

Fylde Council’s planning committee recognised the project’s potential as a catalyst for broader regeneration in St Annes Square. The significant investment from Corbenyah Properties is viewed as a positive indicator of market confidence, and the committee anticipates a ripple effect, inspiring further development in the town centre.

Breathing New Life into a Historic Building

The redevelopment project prioritises the preservation of the building’s architectural character. WBD acknowledges the historical significance of the late Victorian and Edwardian frontages, incorporating design elements that respect this heritage. Key features of the initiative include enhanced glazing throughout the structure, including a striking glass-clad corner bay and elegant glazed balconies. The ground floor will see a complete overhaul of glazing, while alterations to canopies and timber treatments will further enhance the building’s visual appeal.

A Masterplan for the Future

This project coincides with a wider initiative aimed at revitalising St Annes. In October, design studio BDP was appointed to create a comprehensive masterplan for the coastal town. This plan aspires to not only attract additional investment but also adapt to the evolving landscape of high streets, ensuring St Annes remains a vibrant and attractive destination.
